The ManicYouth blog is designed to be a place where young adults with bipolar disorder can discuss and share experiences. Bipolar folks, there friends and family alike, can use this site to learn about their conditionĀ in an environment that is relaxed, friendly and confidential. It does not substitute for the help you get from doctors but rather as something extra to see you through what can be confusing and tough times.

Manic Youth is proud to be a member of the Mental Health Writers' Guild.
Further information concerning the Guild can be found here.

This is great. When I was a kid, there was no consciousness about the possibility that kids could have bipolar. I was (and still am) just a “weird kid” who preferred art and science over social activities. I would get really down and spend weeks in my room writing morbid poems. Sometimes I had “ups” where I wouldn’t sleep for days and would go for endless runs to try to work off the energy. All in all it was a pretty miserable childhood. As you can see by the letters after my name, I did manage to survive somehow
Hey Laura,
Thanks for sharing! I’ve got a couple questions. Feel free to answer as you wish. Are you medicated presently or did you find a way to work out having bipolar? Also, that running sounds intense and impressive. I’ve heard from a friend that they need to do that. Is it beneficial/productive or are there other ways to work out the energy? Thanks again for contributing.
Peace,
Red
